Homework
Fifth grade students can be assigned up to 60 minutes of homework per night. Students are required to read for 30 minutes each night as part of their homework.
Pack Time
Pack Time is a 30 minute period in the day that students can use to catch up on unfinished work, seek extra help, get started on homework, work on projects, or read. Teachers will use this time to work with individuals and small groups, addressing specific needs. All students are expected to use their time appropriately.
Bathroom and Water Fountain
Students should plan on using the bathroom during designated times. Students are permitted to leave class to use the bathroom when necessary and should sign out before doing so. If leaving the classroom becomes excessive or an issue, parents will be contacted. Water fountains will be used ONLY to fill up water bottles. Please make sure your child has a water bottle.
Conferences
Please let me know if you need to schedule a conference. Generally, I will not be able to speak with you in person about concerns unless we have scheduled a meeting ahead of time. All parents will be invited to schedule a conference at the end of the 1st quarter
Class Rules
I will be respectful.
I will be kind.
I will be safe.
I will be responsible.
Work Completion
Students are expected to complete their work to the best of their ability. Generally, if a student has not completed work by the due date, it will either be sent home to be completed independently or finished during a working lunch.
Desks and Cubbies
Students are each assigned a cubby and a seat at a desk or table. It is the students' responsibility to keep these areas clean and organized. Flexible seating is also available to students.
Water Bottle and Snack
Students should bring a water bottle and snack each day.
Classroom Volunteers
Prior to volunteering in a classroom or being chosen as a field trip chaperone, you must be a WCPSS registered and cleared volunteer. Registration takes place in the Media Center.
Absences
Please e-mail or send a note within two days of your child's absences. Absences will only be excused if you inform the teacher in writing and they fall under one of the following categories: illness, injury, death in the family, health care appointments, court appearances, religious observances, natural disasters, outside educational opportunities (requires form filled out in advance).
